The one-mile urban trail is a project that started in October 2008 at a BACPAC (Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee) meeting. Elmira was in the final stages of completing their walkway and it was suggested that Schuyler County do one of their own.
A one-mile urban trail is an area around a city/village that is outline by painted markers, in our case race cars, on the sidewalk. You can start at any point along the walk and as long as you come back to where you stared, you have walked one mile.
The purpose of the route is to encourage people to be more active, to raise awareness of walking as an important form of transportation and to provide residents and visitors with a way to see and experience Watkins Glen.
