SHARED SERVICES

Shared Services began with a mutual sharing plan and the signing of an inter-municipal agreement between the Towns, Villages, County and Schools. The basis of this agreement is for each department to assist the other department of an equal extent so that no money needs to pass to pay for the services or equipment. Services and equipment use will be compensated for on an in-kind basis.

In 1998 the Highway Department purchased an asphalt paver to conduct paving projects for the county and assisting Towns, Villages and NYSDOT with their projects.

In 1998 we also began construction of a Shared Fuel Facility. To date we have twenty County Departments, Municipalities, Schools and Non-Profit Organizations using this facility.

In 2002 we constructed a Shared Salt Storage Facility that is being utilized by Schuyler County Highway and Building and Grounds Departments, the Village of Watkins Glen, Watkins Glen Central School and Schuyler County ARC

Our future plans include building four (4) additional smaller salt storage facilities in the Towns of Orange, Hector, Catharine, and Tyrone.

Our shared services equipment includes:
(1) Excavator (3) Straw mulching machines
(1) Bulldozer (1) Lowbed trailer
(2) Wood Chippers

Future purchases to include:
Multi Tool Backhoe and a Stone Chipper

With limited resources, the Highway Departments and other non-profit agencies in Schuyler County are finding that it is becoming impossible to maintain the services that citizens are demanding, and, in some cases, are required by law. Shared Services is intended to consolidate those services used throughout the county to eliminate redundancies, enhance service levels, and improve productivity and utilization, and lower costs.
