Child Support Enforcement/Collection
The Child Support Unit is responsible for helping clients to establish paternity, establish child support orders, and to pursue collection and modification of established child support orders. The Child Support Enforcement/Collection Unit can work with other counties in New York and with out of state agencies in order to assist you.
There is no fee for this service. Any custodial parent or guardian may apply for the services. If you apply for Medicaid or Temporary Assistance, and have a child whose other parent is absent, you will be required to cooperate with the Child Support Unit to seek support &/or establish paternity. You may have good cause for not cooperating, if you have been physically or mentally threatened or fear for your life or that of your child. You will be asked to substantiate this claim.
The telephone number to call for all child support customer assistance is 1-888-208-4485. This center will be available to assist custodial parents, non-custodial parents, and out-of-state child support agencies. The center is open 8:30-5:00 pm EST Monday through Friday excluding holidays. You may still email the Child Support Unit at scu@co.schuyler.ny.us. with questions if you provide enough information that an answer can be found.
