Office for the Aging Mission Statement
To advocate for, educate and assist the senior population of Schuyler County to live in the most independent and integrated setting through community collaboration providing for well-being/health, security, dignity, autonomy and choice through innovative home and community-based services.
---WHAT WE DO---
Schuyler County Office for the Aging was established as a result of the Older Americans Act of 1965. The core function is to provide services as well as referrals for county residents age 60 and over. A variety of programs address the needs of our aging population through nutrition services, in-home services, benefits assistance and general services. Although the office assists anyone over the age of 60, there is an emphasis on meeting the needs of our low income minority elderly population. We welcome you to peruse through our site and read about the various programs and services offered and if necessitated, call us to discuss specific needs or for clarification in any area.
This office is funded by Schuyler County, the New York State Office for the Aging, the Older Americans Act and participant contributions.
The Legacy Project – Lessons for Living From the Wisest Americans
Share Lessons to Win
The Legacy Project is devoted to collecting and sharing elder wisdom. So we’re sponsoring a contest to find out what older people can teach the younger generation.
No matter what your age, you’ll have a chance to win! The grand prize winners will receive a $100 Amazon.com gift card and a copy of 30 Lessons for Living: Tried and True Advice from the Wisest Americans.
There are two ways to enter:
- For older people, share the most important life lesson you’d like to pass along to the younger generation.
- For our younger readers, tell us something important or useful that you’ve learned from an elder in your life.
Please share your lesson in 100-200 words in the comment box below. Be sure to enter your name, age and e-mail address as well. The contest will be open through Sunday, December 4.
The team at The Legacy Project will read through the entries and selected a grand prize winner in each category. Two runners-up in each category will receive a copy of 30 Lessons for Living.
