Public Service Announcement
Sixth Annual “Keep the Wreath Blue” 2009 campaign
Schuyler County Firefighters Association has again teamed up with all of the Fire Departments in Schuyler County along with Schuyler County Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and Schuyler County Emergency Management, to remind all citizens to have a safe holiday season with our “Keep the Wreath Blue” safety reminder. The participating agencies will be placing a wreath in front of their stations this holiday season starting the day after Thanksgiving. The wreaths will be lit with blue lights. Whenever a structure fire occurs in the county, a blue light bulb will be replaced with a Red bulb.
Again this year the schools in Schuyler County will be participating by displaying a wreath and tracking fires in the county.
We ask that the citizens of Schuyler County use this as a reminder that fire safety starts at home and be vigilant in home fire safety.

Proper Use of Wood Stoves
Wood stoves and fireplaces are beautiful during the holidays if used properly. Install and use wood-burning appliances safely. Obtain a permit before installation of your wood stove by a professional. Once completed, have the installation inspected by the local Code Enforcement Officer. Keep a metal screen around your wood stove or fireplace. Never use flammable liquids to start or freshen a fire in your stove or fireplace.
