Schuyler County Youth Bureau Accepting Applications for New Youth Sports Funding 

The Schuyler County Youth Bureau has received funding from New York State Office of Children and Family Services that is specifically geared toward “youth sports and education funding” and “youth team sports” for youth under the age of 18. Applications are now being accepted. The funding for the new program begins October 1, 2023 and ends September 30, 2024. 

The Youth Sports and Education funding supports local programs that provide youth athletes sporting opportunities. Per NYS Office of Children and Family Services, the programs applying for funding must be an organized activity with movement, including dance, yoga, and active outdoor opportunities. 

The Youth Team Sports funding supports programs that are local nonprofits or community-based organizations offer a team sports, meaning an organized physical activity that includes two or more individuals competing with two or more opposing individuals. Sporting events where an athlete competes individually but on behalf of an organized group is included, such as golf, wrestling, swimming, bowling.

Examples of program costs that would be eligible for funding through the grant are: 


• Purchase of uniforms or equipment 
• Referee fees 
• Facility/field maintenance 
• Training/professional development for coaches/instructors/direct service staff 
• Capital Investments (lighting, storage, fields/facilities)

The mission of the Schuyler County Youth Bureau was established for the purpose of planning, coordination, and supplementing the activities of public, private, and religious agencies devoted to the development of youth. Programs will be provided for both the general population and those considered at-risk, up to age 21. The Schuyler County Youth Bureau strives to enhance the well being of all youth in Schuyler County by advocating and promoting for them the best possible education, social, and job opportunities.


Youth Bureau Overview
The Schuyler County Youth Bureau was established in 1977 for the purpose of planning, coordinating and supplementing the activities of public, private and religious agencies devoted to the welfare and protection of youth. Programs are provided for both the general youth population and those with special needs, up to age 21.

The Bureau is a branch of the County Government and local liaison for the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

One role of the Youth Bureau is as a funding stream for programs. The funding is received through the state Office of Children and Family Services, federal grants and private grants. Another role of the Youth Bureau is to monitor the use of the funds that are given to the different agencies.

The Youth Bureau also is responsible for assessing the needs of the youth of the community, plan for those needs, and network with other agencies concerning those needs and possible programming for those needs and the funding source for the programs.

New York State Governor’s Youth Council Membership Application 2023-2024

The New York State Governor’s Youth Council provides an effective way to engage youth in state government and creates a platform for their voices to be heard by policymakers. This is an incredible opportunity for New York’s youth to represent their county on a statewide level! Members of the NYS Governor’s Youth Council will offer their solutions to key issues facing young people in NYS to the Governor and other policymakers, including how to have better outreach and communication strategies to young people. 

First rounds of county judging will be made in May.
